• Egg Retrieval – Egg collection is accomplished today by ultrasound-guided aspiration
• Insemination and Fertilization – A defined number of sperm ( usually 100,000 sperm/ ml) is placed with each egg in a separate dish containing IVF culture medium.

FAQ's

What is the minimum age for being an egg donor?

You should be between 20 and 30 years of age and be married.

Are there any risks to being an egg donor?

In a good clinic which monitors you carefully , the risk of egg donation is negligible !

What is super ovulation? Does it really need to be done?

Many egg donors are understandably reluctant to take injections when donating their eggs ! ” I am young, healthy and fertile, so why do I need to take injections. Can’t we just donate the one egg I grow every month ” is a common question !Superovulation forms the heart of modern IVF. We use medications to help you grow more eggs. Every month you start to grow about 30-40 follicles, but in a natural cycle, most of these undergo atresia (die), so that only one matures every month, in the normal course of events. With the help of medications, we are able to rescue follicles which would otherwise have died, so that we can help you to grow many mature eggs in one cycle. It’s important that you grow many eggs as this allows us to create many embryos in the IVF lab, thus increasing the chances of success ! !

How many eggs will be taken from me?

On an average, egg donors grow between 8 to 16 mature eggs every time they donate their eggs.

Will I need my husband's permission for becoming an egg donor?

Yes

Why I donated my Eggs?

It is a true pleasure for me to write those few words of recommendation for Dr. Malpani.I visited the centre 3 months ago enquiring about wanting to donate eggs. The first thing that put me into immediate ease was the staff and their excellent care towards the patient. The whole process of donating eggs took less than 15 minutes. I could take the medicines at home and just visit the clinic for scans - which was a great convenient for a workingwoman like me. There was no pain, no problems at all. Everything went smoothly !
It was indeed a great feeling to help other people who are not able to produce their own.Certain things like these - donating eggs being one, cannot be made or bought off the counter. Hence, I suggest you all to help if you can!
I'd also like to compliment the lovely team of receptionists, as well as the sisters who have always been very pleasant, positive and attentive to my needs.

Egg Donation Process for Donors

A detailed look.

Before starting your treatment, we need to synchronise your cycle with that of your recipient. This is quite easy to do and is usually done by putting you on birth control pills prior to the start of the actual treatment cycle; or by putting you on Lupride to downregulate you will the recipient’s cycle starts.

Treatment starts from Day 1 ( the day the bleeding starts) of your cycle. At This time, we downregulate you by starting you on Inj Lupride GnRH analog mfr by Sun Pharma) , 0.2 ml sc daily . On Day 3, you need to do an Ultrasound scan to confirm there is no ovarian cyst, after which we start Your superovulation with 4 ampoules of HMG (Menogon) daily. The dose of HMG will Depend upon your ovarian morphology and your antral follicle count.

This is what the daily schedule would look like.
• Day 1. Inj Lupride, 0.2 ml sc. ( Downregulation starts)
• Day 2. Inj Lupride, 0.2 ml sc.
• Day 3. Inj Lupride, 0.2 ml sc. Vaginal ultrasound scan to confirm there is no ovarian cyst. If there is no cyst, we can commence superovulation.
If there is a cyst, we aspirate/ puncture it under ultrasound guidance and continue with the treatment.
• Day 4 Inj Lupride, 0.2 ml sc. Inj Menogon ( 75 IU), 4 amp IM. Superovulation starts.
• Day 5 Inj Lupride, 0.2 ml sc. Inj Menogon ( 75 IU), 4 amp IM
• Day 6 Inj Lupride, 0.2 ml sc. Inj Menogon ( 75 IU), 4 amp IM
• Day 7 Inj Lupride, 0.2 ml sc. Inj Menogon ( 75 IU), 4 amp IM
• Day 8 Inj Lupride, 0.2 ml sc. Inj Menogon ( 75 IU), 4 amp IM
• Day 9 Inj Lupride, 0.2 ml sc. Inj Menogon ( 75 IU), 4 amp IM
• Day 10. Inj Lupride, 0.2 ml sc. Inj Menogon ( 75 IU), 4 amp IM.
Vaginal ultrasound scan to monitor follicular growth

The Lupride and Menogon injections will continue on a daily basis; and scans will be performed every alternate day, until the follicles are mature. This is usually Day 14- Day 16 for most patients. At this time, an HCG injection will be given, and eggs retrieved 36 hours after this.

You will get a normal period about 14 days after egg collection

The medications used for superovulation are all natural hormones. They do not have any harmful effects and will get excreted promptly in your urine.

Taking these injections and growing lots of eggs will not affect your future menstrual cycles or your fertility ! There are no long term effects of these hormones on your health. Remember that these injections have been used for many years all throughout the world, and have been proven to be safe and effective !
